High School of Applied Arts
Part of my oldest preserved work from 1991. High school graduation work on The Jozef Vydra School of Applied Arts in Bratislava. I designed the corporate identity for this school.
The Jozef Vydra School of Applied Arts in Bratislava is the oldest art school in Slovakia. It was established as the School of Applied Arts by the Business and Industrial Chamber of Bratislava. The school opened in the school year of 1928/1929. Its methodology and scope of education was deliberately linked to the growing European trend in art education set by the German avantgarde Bauhaus school. The new educational methods were enriched with lectures led by renowned European artists, including Lazslo Moholy-Nagy, Jan Tschichold, H. Meyer, E. Kállay, Karel Teige, Ladislav Sutnar and others. The school operated until 1938 when, due to the influence of European fascism, its activities were halted by the authorities. After World War II there was a need to re-establish the School of Art Industries and thus the school’s activities were renewed.
